$1.15 Million for a 1967 Toyota 2000GT, did the new owner over bid?
Back in the day when Toyota came out with the 2000GT it was highly regarded for its beautiful swooping lines and crescent like curves. It was debuted against other similar cars such as the Porsche 911 and Jaguar E-type. When it came down to sticker price the Toyota 2000GT was much more expensive than its competitors. The average price of the 2000GT’s competitors was far under $7k, and the price of the 2000GT was well over $7k. If we were to put that kind of money in today’s market, it would be like buying a new Corvette straight from the dealer.
The car is from the Don Davis car collection out in Fort Worth, Texas. Don Davis previously bought the car from another owner and did a full restoration. No detail was overlooked with this piece of art. They even repainted the inside of the headlight bezels. There was only 351 cars produced and 62 of them were destined for American soil. The car came with a 2.0 Liter overhead cam inline six made by Yamaha. This little motor produced somewhere around 150hp, which could get it up to speeds of 135mph. Thanks Don Davis for restoring such a magnificent sports car and proving that no matter the make, it’s all about the model!
