The Toyota Corolla is the younger brother of the Camry, which is one of the highest selling sedans in the United States. That being said, it was exciting to take the Corolla for a week long test drive around Tampa Bay. After experiencing a number of other efficiency vehicles over the past couple of months, I have to say that we were most impressed with the Corolla and its dynamic range of options.
The exterior was 4EverGreen Mica and boasted new styling that is, by far, the best looking Corolla styling we’ve seen yet. Light, aerodynamic and efficient, the small sedan looks phenomenal and offers excellent performance for its class on top of 15” steel-wheels. The small sedan may be considered a more economical vehicle, but there was nothing about the materials used that would separate it from the finer sedans. Halogen high-beams and LED low beams and daytime running lights lead the way while intermittent windshield wipers keep the view ahead clear.
Inside the Corolla we were welcomed by comfortable seats and a fully loaded dashboard. Unlike a number of its competitors, the 2014 Corolla offers an optional 6.1” touch-screen navigation and radio system that was easy to use and came with Entune premium audio. An integrated backup camera and steering-wheel mounted audio and Bluetooth are also optional.
Driving was smooth, seamless and delightful. The 1.8-Liter four-cylinder engine offered a unique blend of power on the highway and all around fuel efficiency. A combined 35 mpg with Toyota’s ECO drive is incredibly impressive, and just one of the reasons the sedan has been leading its class for years.
We recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a fun, reliable first car for their teens. The Corolla will not only outlive its warranty, but will also provide a relentless positive and safe experience for your teen and all of their friends. For just $19,460, it’s a steal.
