Some might refer to Carl F. Bucherer as a sleeping giant, thanks to its newly emerging powers. Make no mistake; Carl F. Bucherer has been a powerful force in the watch world since its inception 126 years ago. However,in recent years, the brand has significantly demonstrated its technical prowess, unveiling superb timepieces of stature. Indeed, the Lucerne-based brand has been investing in timepiece production, focusing on new movements and top-quality complex watches.
One of the most intriguing new timepieces in its new collection is the Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec. This watch is the brand’s first professional diver’s timepiece and strictly adheres to dive watch specifications. Inspired by the sea, every detail of the ScubaTec will delight professional divers, recreational divers and non-divers thanks to the beauty and functionality.
In terms of looks, the watch is a beautiful brut. The 44.6 mm case is deftly crafted in stainless steel and features a unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert that indicates the first 15 minutes of dive time in a bright blue ceramic developed exclusively for Carl F. Bucherer.
The highly functional watch is water resistant to 500 meters, as it is equipped with an auto matichelium escape valve to protect it from possible damage due to underwater pressure changes with ascent or descent. It features a screw-down crown and an extra-thick crystal that measures 4mm in thickness.
Understanding the importance of easy underwater reading, the Carl F. Bucherer Research and Development team equipped the watch with a black dial with large Super Luminova hands and hour markers that glow light blue underwater (or in the dark). There is also a date window at 3:00 making the timepiece versatile for out-of-water water anywhere wear. The caseback of the watch is engraved with two swimming manta rays. The Patravi ScubaTec is powered by the in-house-made automatic Caliber CFB 1950.1. The watch is a COSC-certified chronometer.
In typical Carl F. Bucherer style—where every detail is meticulously thought out—the Patravi ScubaTec is sold with either a steel bracelet with an extension for wear over a wet suit, or with a black rubber strap with blue accents for anytime wear. The retail on this watch ranges for a cool $6,400 on strap to $6,800 on bracelet.
“The Patravi ScubaTec fills a void within the collection being the brands first divers watch,” says Ron Stoll, President Carl F. Bucherer North America. “With the ScubaTec, Carl F. Bucherer is able to offer a watch of such exceptional value, without sacrificing any of the brands original DNA and philosophy.”
Because the watch is such a big addition to the brand’s already chocked-full technical watch collection, Carl F. Bucherer has built a huge 20×20 interactive traveling display to showcase the ScubaTec in all its glory. The display, which takes a full two days to assemble and disassemble, has been in Las Vegas and Los Angeles thus far and will continue to travel to key jewelers across the USA.
