In the early 1970s Mr and Mrs Jack Heinz of Ketchup fame sold their iconic Barbados house Lemington Pavillon and moved to Lyford Cay. Mrs Heinz created a dreamy modernist villa on three levels with the ground floor is surrounded on three sides by a pool. The house has extraordinary views over the Lyford Cay Golf Course and of The Lyford Cay Club. The house was christened Minor Cay, the counterpoint to the Heinz’s Hobe Sound house, Major Sound. They entertained constantly on Winter weekends. It was a glittering roster of friends including Jackie Kennedy and her sister Lee Radziwill. Slim Aarons shot iconic photos of the Radziwill children at the house in the early 1970s. At the beginning of each Winter season Mrs Heinz would have the house completely covered in thatch, creating a bohemian Island Fantasy. There are wonderful photos of a young Anthony Radziwill in front of the thatch covered house by Aarons.
In the 1980s the Heinz family started to spend more time in Europe and the house was sold to the American Sculptor John Safer. The Safer family spent over twenty five winters in the house. Minor Cay captures the true essence of the Lyford Cay lifestyle beautifully. Facing the 12th fairway with magnificent views of the sea, which can be enjoyed from every room.
Built in the early 60’s, this home was completely refurbished in 2017 and decorated by famed interior designer, Amanda Lindroth. Enter this divine five bedroom home through a Coralina stone covered foyer which allows you to proceed to either up to the great room on the second floor. The master bedroom suite is located on this floor together with a spacious living and dining room with coral stone fireplace and tongue and groove wood tray ceiling. All facing a canopy covered verandah creating a wonderful island feel. The main kitchen which is also on this level has Carrera marble counter tops, stainless steel appliances and pantry. There is also a plat covered powder room.
The lower floor consists of a great room with casual seating and bar area. Sliding doors opening to a covered verandah with additional outdoor living space. In addition, there are two guest bedrooms with en-suite baths, a laundry room and an additional plat covered powder room. A spiral staircase leads to the pool level from the verandah to the poolside covered patio. There are two further bedrooms with en-suite baths on this level each with a unique circular window overlooking the pool and golf course. Both rooms have a stable door with direct access to the water. At the center of it all is a second kitchen with a serving hatch, which is convenient when entertaining or lounging by the pool. The enormous wraparound swimming pool is an exterior focal point and features a concrete bridge to access the garden and golf course beyond.
