After seeing the 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO reveal itself with a 7:08.69 lap time at the Nurburgring Nov. 19, we just about fell out of our seats. Right as we were sliding back into our chairs, a picture from a Japanese magazine was leaked by the official Facebook page for 7Tune. The magazine pages contain information about the next monster to emerge from Japan, and knocked us to the ground again.
According to a Mar. 17 article from Autoguide, the 2016 Nissan GT-R will not only be a hybrid, but may also possess an excess of 800 hp due to a redesigned R36 3.8-Liter twin-turbo V6 and new hybrid technology. The engine will boast an on-board regenerative system for the hybrid battery while the motor will host KERS-style technology that was created through a collaboration between NISMO and the F1 Williams team. The new improvements will not only make the GT-R more advanced than ever but will also bring an estimated extra 250 horsepower to the table with hopes of running from 0-62 mph in just 2.7 seconds.
Nissan once again set the bar for sports cars higher, and we can only imagine what the next Nurburgring lap time may be. It will also be exciting to see what other manufacturers will do to compete with Nissan’s upcoming sports cars. What do you think will be next? Tell us in the comments below.
