Eric and Amity Peterson aren’t the kind of people to purchase something of quality, and then never use it. Quite the contrary, in fact, as evidenced by the odometers in their private collection.
But with each mile driven in their Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs, McLarens and more, they’re working to change the lives of children in difficult circumstances. The Petersons have together created an organization dedicated to providing a brief, adrenaline and smile-filled break from a life of doctors, hospitals and medicine: Dream Drives for Kids.
“We created a way to use our car collection for something unique … and it lets us be more active with the cars,” Eric said to Motor Authority in an article published today. Children suffering from cancer, cystic fibrosis, heart disease and other life-threatening illnesses are able to take a ride in their favorite exotic car, and their parents take home a video and photos from the experience, creating new memories outside of the realm of illness. It’s a chance to forget about what’s going on, and just smile for a little while.[youtube id=”W2tcdq4Olgk” align=”center”]

And, as Motor Authority describes, the collection that they have is an impressive one, including: a 1965 A.C. Cobra (Superformance replica), 1969 Porsche 912, 1979 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo, 2006 Ferrari F430 F1 Spider, 2007 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider, 2014 BMW M4, 2015 Porsche 911 (991) Turbo S and a coveted 2015 BMW i8.
According to the same article, the Petersons are hoping to be able to provide at least one d911ream drive every week, with the belief that this can grow into a national organization, with collectors and enthusiasts taking kids for the ride of their life across the country, and maybe even the world.
