Though the concept was only unveiled Feb. 17 ahead of the Geneva International Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz is already filling in the details of their latest concept, and it seems to be a powerhouse.
“Only a G-Class can be better than a G-Class,”states a press release issued by the marque Feb. 21, announcing that the new G 500 4×4² is essentially a new brother of the existing AMG 6×6, only with a few modifications. It’s set to provide drivers with both a 5-star experience and insane off-roading abilities.
A completely new 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine capable of creating 422 hp will be housed in an aluminum crankcase if this concept makes it to production. The newly developed chassis is based on the series-production G-model, with only enough room for two axles, rather than the 6×6’s three. Body parts will be crafted from carbon fiber, and the interior will provide an experience similar to a luxury saloon.

The release ends on the note of reminding us that this is still just a concept vehicle, with no decisions yet made about whether it will make it to production. “Whether and when the decision on series production of the Mercedes-Benz G 500 4×4² will be made depends on the reaction which the near-series show car receives,” it said.
