The 2023 The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering was the event of triumph for a stunning 1956 Ferrari Superamerica “Superfast” as it clinched the “Best of Show” title. Held at the famed Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California, this automotive garden party is one of Monterey Car Week’s most exclusive and prestigious events, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Owned by Anne Brockinton Lee, the Ferrari was selected from more than 200 entrants and inducted into the Rolex Circle of Champions. What sets this particular 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica “Superfast 1” apart is its recent multi-year restoration that features a one-of-one chassis and a futuristic tail fin design.
Under the hood, it boasts a 4.9-liter Lampredi V12 engine with twin ignition and 24 spark plugs. This engine is suggested to have been used for the development of Ferrari’s long-distance racing 410 Sports, making it a critical piece of automotive history. Additionally, as one of only four special-bodied prototypes for the 410 Superamerica and the only one by Pininfarina, it stands alone in exclusivity.
The 2023 The Quail event wasn’t just about this unique Ferrari, though. Other noteworthy winners include a 1949 Lancia Aprilia Supergioello winning the Spirit of The Quail, a 1962 Lancia Appia Convertible Vignale receiving the Hagerty Drivers Foundation & Preservation Award, and a 1953 Delahaye 135MS CL Spéciale Faget-Varnet taking home The Art of Bespoke Award.
