In recognition of an incredible hundred years of fierce competition and engineering excellence, Porsche has revealed the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition, a tribute to the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, which began 100 years ago in 1923. This special edition, celebrating the brand’s rich history at Circuit de la Sarthe, is a testament to Porsche’s unwavering commitment to creating dream cars that push the boundaries of technology and design.
The Le Mans Centenaire Edition draws inspiration from two iconic Le Mans-winning Porsches: the 356 SL and the 911 GT1 ’98. By reimagining their designs and incorporating elements of both vehicles, Porsche has created a sophisticated, modern sports car for the discerning enthusiast. The Le Mans Centenaire Edition will be an exclusive treat for the French market, reflecting the strong bond between the brand and the iconic French endurance race. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) also contributed to this special edition. ACO President Pierre Fillon lauded the car as a “fantastic tribute to the greatest endurance race in the world,” celebrating both the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Porsche’s 75th anniversary.
Powering this special edition is the same 473-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engine as the standard 911 Carrera GTS, offering quintessential Porsche performance. Buyers can opt for either a 7-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed PDK transmission. Several unique features have been developed for this edition, including a badge with the “24h Le Mans” logo and a high-quality badge with the Le Mans race track outline in French tricolour. The “Born in Le Mans, Manufactured in Zuffenhausen” decal emphasises the global collaboration in creating this car.
The design elements also pay homage to Porsche’s 356 SL (1951) and 911 GT1 ’98 Le Mans winners. For instance, the Le Mans Silver Metallic exterior, the starting number “46” on the exterior, Graphite Blue leather, and Graphite Blue corduroy of the historic racing cars have been carried over to this modern iteration. Porsche’s association with Le Mans has been unbroken since 1951, leading to a remarkable track record of 19 overall victories and 110 class wins. The 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition encapsulates this storied history while propelling the brand into an exciting future.
