As supercar manufacturing continues to ramp up year after year, the industry's earliest examples are being monetarily recognized for their extreme rarity. The Ferrari brand stands at the front of the line for this top, as collectors hope for the day to acquire one of Enzo Ferrari's first sports cars. While many of these models made appearances at The Amelia Island Concours, one very special Ferrari took the auction stage to find a happy new home. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider was the topic of the weekend, showcasing a one-of-one configuration delivered in a spectacular Azzurro Metallizzato finish.

Being only 1-of-37 covered-headlight SWB California Spiders ever made, this specific Ferrari was built for the 1962 New York International Auto Show. It features a 240 horsepower 2,953cc SOHC Tipo 168/61 V12 engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. All body and engine work is Ferrari Classiche certified, authenticating that it retains the original chassis, body, and driveline. The auction professionals at Gooding & Company organized the sale on Saturday, with many interested collectors both in the room and on phone lines. After an exciting battle of bidding, the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider finally sold for an incredible $18,045,000.
