Major League Baseball’s “Mr. October” has never been known for subtlety, and he likes his cars to be as bold and unique as his personality with historic provenance that rivals his own. A five-time World Series-winning athlete and MLB Hall-of-Famer, Reggie Jackson has further remained with the New York Yankees over the past 25-plus years as a special advisor to the owner. With the team winning another five World Series during the Jeter era, Mr. October is now the holder of an incredible 10 World Series rings and has more than earned the right to speak confidently about his 21 active seasons in the Big Leagues, as well as his years of involvement since. Jackson is also an active hobbyist, and with a private assemblage of around 100 classic and collector cars, his garage is another brag-worthy accomplishment that any enthusiast would be proud to call his own. Always a car guy, Jackson’s retirement in 1987—after 21 years in the league and a total of 2,548 hits, 1,702 runs batted in and 563 home runs—allowed him to focus on his passion for collector-grade vintage automobiles. His tastes encompass a wide variety of vehicles ranging in production from the 1930s up through the ‘70s and even into the ‘80s. He collects early Fords, Porsches, Hot Rods, Corvettes, Mustangs, Shelbys, Mopars and more. While somewhat partial to the American muscle-car scene, Jackson even dabbles in the exotic with marques like Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz. As with most collectors of substantial means, Jackson’s collection occasionally outgrows his available space, and a need for some pruning arises. This May in Indianapolis, Dana Mecum’s Original Spring Classic will have the honor of presenting 19 stunning vehicles from Jackson’s private collection at auction. Jackson’s legacy on the baseball diamond as one of the most memorable players in the MLB’s more than 140-year history is undisputed. His accomplishments on the field will forever hold a place in the record books, and his influence will be felt for decades to come. The offering of his amazing assemblage of vehicles in Indianapolis presents a unique and exciting opportunity to both car and baseball enthusiasts. By their own merit, Jackson’s cars are all investment-quality collectibles boasting rarity and high desirability with provenance to boot; and when coupled with Jackson’s own prominent past, these cars become part of an elite class of collectibles that appeals to enthusiasts in a way that crosses the divides of both generations and genres. Whether one’s passion lies with cars, baseball or both, the vehicles from the Reggie Jackson Collection are all home runs.
