Sixty years ago, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL won a surprise victory at the 1955 “Mille Miglia,” one of the world’s most famous and grueling races. To celebrate the car’s legendary win, Mercedes-Benz introduced the SL Special Edition “Mille Miglia 417” for the SL 400 and SL 500 models in a press release issued today. The “417” in the car’s name refers to the winning car’s race number of 417 (this number can also be found in the badge of the car).
Visually, the car is a stunner. Its red highlights on the front and rear spoilers, brake calipers, wheels and interior contrast perfectly with the magnetite black metallic paint finish. Customers who want something other than the metallic black can opt for either the designo night black and magno and designo cashmere white magno matte finishes, or the designo diamond white bright shiny paintwork.

Performance-wise, this Special Edition is limited by which SL model you choose. If you opt for the SL 400, you get 333 hp from the six-cylinder engine, while the SL 500‘s eight-cylinder produces 455 hp.
In order to get this Special Edition treatment for your SL model, you will have to pay the premium for the optional extras, which are €14,800 (approx. $16,800) for the SL 400 and €12,800 (approx. $14,600) for the SL 500. Customers will be able to order the Mille Miglia 417 come April 7.
