On Feb. 7, we posted an article detailing a surfboard that was created by Mercedes-Benz for big-wave surfer Garrett McNamara. On Feb. 21, Mercedes-Benz posted a video to YouTube of McNamara putting the board to good use on the monster waves of Nazaré, Portugal.
In the video, you are taken through the process by which the board was conceptualized, designed, crafted and, finally, taken down the face of a giant wave. To design the board, McNamara was actually taken to the Mercedes-Benz factory in Stutgart, Germany, where he spoke with the likes of Steffen Köhl, Director of Advanced Design Global Mercedes-Benz. McNamara and Köhl discussed what he needs out of a board in order to create the most efficient and comfortable ride on the deadliest of waves.
Check out the video above to see it all happen.
