After a leak of images Feb. 10, Mercedes-Benz decided today to officially unveil the brand-new S-Class Coupe in a press release.
Most importantly, the press release reveals what will be powering the S-Class Coupe: a 4MATIC 4.7-liter V8 biturbo engine. This engine creates an output of 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The body of the car itself measures 198 inches long and has a wheelbase of 116 inches, naturally shorter than the four-door S550’s length of 206 inches and 124.6 inch wheelbase.
An innovative exhaust system has been added to the S-Class Coupe to ensure when the car is driving through a slow neighborhood, its loud exhaust note does not cause a scene. This is done with pneumatic flaps that direct the exhaust flow, depending on the car’s speed. This means when the engine is being pushed hard, the flaps open, allowing for an exhaust flow that ensures a deep and powerful sound.
Mercedes has added a special something to the S-Class Coupe’s headlights; well, 47 “somethings,” to be exact. Each headlight on this new model features no less than 47 Swarovski crystals, with 17 creating the daytime running lamps and the remaining 30 making up the turn indicator lamps.
Mercedes will be putting the S-Class Coupe on showroom floors this fall. For more information, be sure to read the press release below.
