“Imagine you’re walking around San Francisco when suddenly a glimpse of the future drives by. Wouldn’t you take a picture as well?”

So states the caption of an album added to Facebook today by Mercedes-Benz. Crowds circle around the futuristic and incredibly-different vehicle in each shot, with dozens of people staring, cell phones and cameras out, catching a glimpse of this strange car driving by.

For those who are unfamiliar with the F 015 Luxury in Motion Research Vehicle from Mercedes-Benz, it’s their new concept car that was unveiled Jan. 5 at the Consumer Electronics Show. Completely autonomous and undeniably sleek and minimalist in its aesthetics, the F 015 is a showcase of all the most advanced technologies that Mercedes-Benz has thus far created.

The seats pivot so all passengers can face each other and the walls become informational and interactive windows, which are capable of responding to touch, eye-movements and hand gestures. You can see in the video above, added to YouTube by Mercedes-Benz Jan. 5, some of the more advanced amenities, including complete control from your cell phone and obstacle recognition programs.

With this trip around town in San Francisco, we can only imagine that Mercedes-Benz is intent on not just creating these technologies, but on familiarizing the general public with the concept of an autonomous vehicle and other driver’s assist programs.

As Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, stated during the unveiling at the Electronics show, the main obstacle preventing the implementation of these technologies isn’t government or development limits, it’s customer comfort.
