The original Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was created for the FIA GT Championship in 1997 and was designed to specifically compete in races. However, Mercedes had to create road cars in order to meet homologation standards. Shortly after, 26 road going versions were created, with some being rarer than others.
Of the 26 examples created, 6 of them were without a top and are known as the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadsters. Yes, only 6 of the Roadsters were created, and one of them has popped up for sale in Arkansas at Elite Autos for $1,995,980. Surprisingly enough, this rare gem has only 70 miles on it, quite possibly making it the lowest mileage CLK GTR in existence.
What’s more, powering this Roadster is a 6.9-liter V12. This engine produces 604 hp and 572 lb-ft of torque, an impressive number indeed. With these numbers, its able to complete a 0-60 mph run in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 199 mph.
Elite Auto has made sure that this CLK GTR Roadster is in perfect condition, flying two techs that were on the original build team to fully service the car. Dedication to quality? Yeah, I think so. The car is also federalized and is titled for public street use in the United States. That means you can buy this exotic car for sale and cruise around town in a legitimate race car. I think I’ve had dreams about this scenario…
