It’s Jan. 29 at 1:16 am, and a futuristic looking vehicle rolls out of a misty trailer, with a license plate that reads “OUTATIME.” But this time, it’s not a DeLorean taking on the time space continuum.
It’s a McLaren 650S, and it’s ready for the new racing season to begin. It’s “Back to the Racetrack” with McLaren-Honda drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button in this video from McLaren, uploaded to YouTube Jan. 28. The two meet in the deserted parking lot of McLaren’s headquarters and start debating whether they’re going to take on races of the past or the future.
Do they head back to the 1988 Brazilian Grand Prix? Or forward to March 15 of this year?
“You better back up, we don’t have enough road to reach 88 mph,” Alonso says from the passenger seat.
“Roads?” Button asks. “We don’t need roads where we’re going. But we do need racetracks.”
Doc and Marty would be proud.
