The goldRush Rally isn’t an event, it is a lifestyle! Entering it’s fifth year, owners take their luxury cars across the country enjoying the finest hotels and clubs each destination has to offer. This year I met up with the rally in Memphis. I scheduled a shoot with the Taylor Lynn Foundation for that night when they arrived. For night shoots I usually use strobes but I wanted to try “light painting” for the first time. I met up with the Taylor Lynn Mclaren and their awesome owners and we chose a location in front of “The Memphis Pyramid”. With the camera sitting on a tripod and my assistant pressing the remote I was able to cover the cars with a small light while the camera recorded a long exposure. Jason Thorgalsen also joined in on this shoot and offered some great advice and took some incredible shots without much lighting. I have followed Jason’s work for about a year now and meeting him in person was great! He takes some outstanding shots so be sure to check out his work as well! The next goldRush Rally is almost a year away and hopefully in that time I will be able to set up another shoot at one of next year’s stops. I was very satisfied with the light painting results and will definitely practice with this form of photography in the near future!
