A year after its unveiling at the 2014 Geneva International Motor Show, the Maserati Alfieri Concept has been recognized as the top concept car to be produced last year.

In posts to their Facebook page and news center March 4, Maserati announced the results of Car Design Night at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, where the Alfieri was recognized by Car Design News’ panel of designers and industry professionals.

“The design of sports cars with fine volumes and beautiful proportions is something Italian car design has long excelled at, but the Alfieri’s more contemporary design elements have been executed with impeccable judgement,” Stated Owen Ready, Editor at Car Design News, in Maserati’s post.

It was announced May 7, 2014 that the Alfieri was to be slated for production, with the tentative dates of 2016 for a coupe and 2017 for a convertible version. Under the hood will be a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, which is estimated to create up to 404 hp. They also announced last year that there will be a few variants created with varying performance levels, including one that could create up to 513 hp.

The name of this model, created to celebrate Maserati’s centennial anniversary, comes from the most prominent of the founding Maserati brothers. Though five of the six Maserati brothers were heavily involved in the automotive world from a young age, Alfieri was the first to step out and create his own venture.
