When you see a Lexus IS F driving down the street, you see a sedan that is bound to have some luxury strewn about the inside. But what you don’t see is a performance sedan that is ready to take on the famous BMW M3.

On the outside, the 2013 Lexus IS F is visually appealing, but not incredibly striking like the other performance model in Lexus’ line-up, the LFA. On its edges and corners, the IS F is smooth and curvy, unlike many of Lexus’ latest models, but nonetheless, it still have some great exterior features. The quad exhaust setup is really what lets you know that there is something special about this car. From far away, it may look like a dual exhaust system, but upon further inspection you will see that two pipes are stacked in the rear.

Inside the IS F is where you really get the “sporty” feeling that this car is supposed to give. The full leather seats with contrasting stitching are what will catch your eyes when you first open the door. While the passengers may get a comfy ride, its the driver who is spoiled in this car. The Electroluminescent “F” Spec Optitron gauges bring the speedometer life, making it enjoyable as you look down to see your speed raising with every second. On your immediate right is where you find the center console where the navigation system, optional Mark Levinson audio system, and much more is controlled. While it has more buttons than I like, its nice asymmetrical setup is still pleasing to the eye.

Now that you’ve settled yourself inside the IS F, why not start her up? Upon starting the engine you will be greeted with a pleasant sound. That sound you are hearing is coming from a 5.0-liter V8 that is working to put out 416 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque. Is that enough power for this car? I’d say its plenty, but whats power to a car if it can’t handle it? Luckily, the 2013 Lexus IS F is fitted with all the essentials needed to give the driver the ultimate driving experience. The power is sent through an 8-speed Sport Direct-Shift transmission that is controlled by paddle shifters. Brembo sourced brakes with 14.2-inch discs and six-piston calipers keep all of that power under control when you are ready to slow it down a bit. Around the corners, the IS F handled beautifully. When you combine the braking power, engine power, updated electronic power steering system and low stance, you get a driving experience that is worthy of a track day.

If you are out in the market for a performance sedan, be sure to check out the 2013 Lexus IS F. For $61,600, the IS F is a great value.
