2014 Lexus IS 350 Review

While stunning, the Lexus IS 350 has been an overlooked competitor in the entry-level sport sedan market. And yet, the 2014 model is set to change the way it stacks up against the competitors. Last year’s IS 350 had some small downfalls, but Lexus was quick to fix these minor nuances and create a sport sedan worth more than a look.

The exterior of the 2014 Lexus IS 350 is acute, fierce and aggressive, more so than its competitors. Lexus’ signature spindle grille works well with the sharp edges found on the headlights, creating a unique and impressive front-end. If you study the car’s side profile with a ruler, you will notice a longer wheelbase when compared to the 2013 model. Also, a single line flows from the side skirts to the tail lights, creating a fluid yet sharp aesthetic.

Inside of the 2014 IS 350 is a lush interior with all of the amenities an owner could need, and then some. Sitting down in the car is, in itself, quite the treat. Cushioned seats, armrests and steering wheels, as well as perforated leather, provide one of the most comfortable cabins you will find.  The dashboard and center console are clutter-free and functional, allowing the driver to easily navigate the car’s functions. In the back seat, there is roughly an extra 1.5 inches of legroom when compared to the 2013 model, thanks to the longer wheelbase. And if you think 1.5 inches is not noticeable, sit in the 2013 IS 350 and then the 2014. You will find that this extra space is needed and appreciated.

Power in the IS 350 is definitely there, with a 3.5-liter V6 that creates 306 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Mated to this engine is either an eight-speed automatic transmission for the rear-wheel drive models, or a six-speed automatic for the all-wheel drive models. Whichever you choose, expect a 0-60 time of around 5.6 seconds. More importantly than the 0-60 time is a smooth ride that is complemented by seamless gear changes and it’s rev-matching technology.

If you are in the market for an entry-level sports sedan, the 2014 Lexus IS 350 deserves at least a test drive. It looks absolutely fantastic inside and out, and offers a thrilling, yet poised, drive.
