In a press release issued today, Land Rover announced that the Range Rover Sport SVR is now the fastest production SUV to lap Nurburgring.
Yes, you read correctly. This 5.0-liter supercharged V8-poewred SUV lapped “The Green Hell” in a mere 8 minutes 14 seconds. This feat was accomplished while a Land Rover driver was testing out a standard production model of the SUV.
Mike Cross, Land Rover Chief Engineer Vehicle Integrity, said in the press release, “The Nürburgring is a benchmark for vehicle development and testing, and cars become stronger, more durable and faster over its 13 miles and 70-plus corners. We wanted to see whether an SUV could behave like a performance car in this challenging environment. The results are spectacular and the Range Rover Sport SVR has demonstrated outstanding on-road performance capabilities.”
Expect the Range Rover SVR to arrive in showrooms in 2015.
