Land Rover is set to launch their first-ever hybrid models – the Range Rover Hybrid and Ranger Rover Sport Hybrid. Not only are these a first for Land Rover Range Rovers for sale, but they are also the world’s first premium diesel SUV hybrids. The result is a refined and improved SUV driving experience never seen before.

Combining the Land Rover’s 3-liter V6 diesel to the 35kW electric motor is a Hybrid powertrain that features three driver-selectable modes. Not only does the electric motor boost the torque by 125 lb-ft, it can also be used to power the vehicle entirely in EV Mode. Using regenerative braking, the lithium ion battery pack recharges itself when the vehicle is slowing down. Also in the EV mode, the Range Rover Hybrid can travel up to 30 mph for 1 mile before the diesel engine seamlessly kicks in. Integrated with the hybrid powertrain is an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
When working in conjunction with one another, the electric motor and diesel engine produce 335 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Both hybrid models can accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 3 seconds with a top speed of 135 mph. More importantly than the 0-60 time and top speed is the mpg rating, which is set at a combined 44.1 mpg for both models.
Order books for these hybrids open Sept. 10 with the first deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2014.
