Lamborghini announced that it will produce its first SUV since 1986, when it launched the LM002. Harry Metcalfe, editorial director of EVO, was at Lamborghini’s anniversary celebration when he tweeted the following: “Lamborghini confirms Urus SUV for 2017 production at tonight’s #Lambo50 gala dinner.”
The Urus was put on the backburner by Lamborghini, and there was no word of when or if it would be produced. However, there were filing for patents that involved the Urus earlier this year so all hope was not lost. And this tweet by Metcalfe is assuring to those who are waiting the arrival of the Urus.
The Lamborghini Urus itself is slick in design and stays low to the ground. Premiered at the Beijing International Auto Show, the Urus looked to be a perfect fit for Lamborghini’s line-up. It also seems to closely resemble its predecessor, the LM002, which looked more like a dressed-up Hummer than a Lamborghini.
The Urus will feature a 4.0-liter V8 engine fed by a pair of turbochargers. With 600 horsepower and 600 feet of torque, the Lamborghini Urus is large enough to fit a family of four comfortably. It has a dual-dutch automated manual transmission with an enhanced, permanent all-wheel drive system. Buckle up because this SUV will hit 60 mph in 3 seconds!
