As we wait for the 2017 Urus, the second coming of the Lamborghini SUV, we have another special, high-performance derivative that pays tribute to the Blancpain Super Trofeo racecar. If it seems familiar, that’s because it is. It features many of the same components found on the LP570-4 SuperTrofeo Stradale that came before it, and the LP570-4 Blancpain that came before that.
Squadra Corse refers to a new department within Lamborghini that manages all motorsport activities, enticing new owners and seasoned racers to compete within the Lamborghini marque, home to the only one-make all-wheel-drive series.
As you would expect, the Gallardo Squadra Corse is very close to the racecar. They share the same rear wing, achieving, under the best aerodynamic conditions, three times the downforce of the Gallardo LP560-4, but it also slows the car’s top speed down to 199 mph. Another element taken directly from the racecar is the quick-release, removable engine hood.
Propulsion for the Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse comes courtesy of the 562-horsepower V-10 that first appeared in the new Superleggera. The Squadra Corse has a dry weight of just 2,954 pounds, also the same as the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. So, performance is on-par with the Superleggera, dashing to 62 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds and 124 coming 6.8 seconds later.
