In an unusual pairing, Volvo and Koenigsegg had two of their strongest players take to the track to compete. A One:1, the world’s first megacar with a perfectly matched power-weight ratio, raced an FH, a 540 hp 8 ton monster with a dual clutch inspired by the racing world, according to a Nov. 10 YouTube video from Volvo.
Driving the FH was Tiff Needell, British TV presenter and co-host of Top Gear and Fifth Gear, who explains the challenge in the video; he believes that the FH can complete one lap around the track faster than the One:1 can complete two.
In a press release issued today, Christian von Koenigsegg, CEO and founder of Koenigsegg, said there was no way they could turn down the challenge from a fellow Swedish car manufacturer. “When Volvo Trucks challenged us to a race, it was impossible to turn down,” he said in the release. “We are always open for the unexpected and what could be more unexpected than for a Megacar to go up against a heavy truck on a race circuit?”
