Few cars truly compete with the German luxury sedans and coupés, but the Infiniti G37 IPL 2-Door Convertible does better than just keeping up with the German competition. The G37 is otherwise known as the 3-Series killer, and after driving one for a week, we could see why from the first day. The dynamic control and powerful Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) tuned 3.7-Liter V6 engine means a driving experience you won’t forget every trip to work.
Stepping into the stunning G37, we were introduced to a vibrant red leather interior. The seats are uniquely made with the IPL logo on the front and back, and along with the steering wheel, are completed by the IPL red stitching. Every luxury feature one may need for maximum comfort was supplied in this coupé. Heated and cooled seats with eight combined temperature controls, as well as the advanced climate control systems Nissan provides for their luxury brand, make for comfort no matter what side of the prime meridian you’re on.
Handling around corners is seemingly effortless and smooth. The IPL-tuned performance suspension mates with the 19 inch 7-spoke aluminum wheels to hold the street like rails. With the (legal) chance, and the appropriate line of asphalt, you can push the G37 IPL to its limits. You’ll find that the take off is satisfying, but not punishing. The thrust of the G37 IPL is enough to enjoy the magnesium paddle shifters, but don’t expect to find any BMW M3s behind you.
Controls within the convertible are simple. The radio is self-explanatory and brings prestigious sound from the Bose® Open Air Sound System, which includes personal speakers in the front seat headrests. The three-piece top can be dropped at the push of a button and fits into the trunk nicely. It’s easy to admire this car with the top down; it has been designed with a free, but organized, look crossed with aggressive sporty styling, whether the top’s on or off.
The G37 IPL is an incredible car that allows for a versatile and fierce design that complements its cross of luxury and sport. Decent efficiency with intriguing overall power that excites are two things we expect from a performance Infiniti. Our only complaint is the almost cheap feel to the plastic looking dash. But assuming the high level of technology and pristine options offered, you get the most for your buck from the G37 IPL at its $62,415 price tag. Comparing it to many German competitors, you can expect around $20,000 more for the same options.
If you’re in the market for a performance coupé or convertible, don’t let this slip your mind. The style and performance will force adrenaline through your veins and be sure to excite you on your first drive. Get to your local Infiniti dealer and see for yourself.
