It’s time to welcome back an old friend at last: the Ford GT.
Unveiled today and captured by Jerry Villagrana at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, is the new 2016 Ford GT. Through this car, a new supercar era will be ushered in for the American automaker. Not only will this car be available to the public, it will also be competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a return we have all been waiting for.
Powering this new supercar will be a twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine that creates more than 600 hp, the most powerful EcoBoost engine Ford has ever created.
To enhance the car’s performance, Ford is utilizing lightweight materials in the GT’s construction. Carbon fiber construction is used for the passenger cell, as well as the body panels. Another material, aluminum, is widely used in the GT’s front and rear subframes.
