It seems like we just met the 458 Speciale, and we expected it to stick around for at least a few years. But, in a press release today, Ferrari announced the birth of the 488 GTB. We knew something new and revolutionary was in the works, thanks to a teaser video released yesterday that went viral.

Since turbos allow for big power from smaller engines, the 488 will use a revised 3.8L V8, probably similar to what is found in the California T. Yes, the F40 was also twin turbo and a rear engine V8, but that is just nostalgia. This new model delivers 660 HP and laps the Fiorano test track in 1:23, the same time as big brother F12.

Performance Figures

  • 0-62 mph: 3 seconds
  • 0-124 mph: 8.3 seconds
  • Top Speed: 205+ mph
In a smart move, engineers have added Variable Torque Management into the engine programming. This allows for a gradual and controllable release of power once the turbos spool up. The surge of power is what hurt the F40, as it made the car scary even in perfect weather.

760 nm of torque under its hood translates to 560 ft-lbs, or 51 pounds more than the F12. This new Grand Touring Berlinetta represents the state of the art from this storied brand.

This will undoubtedly make the 458 more affordable, and you know the best place to find yours. Stay tuned to Autofluence for more 488 GTB news.
