Knowing just how reliable an automobile will be prior to making a purchase seems like something that would require a crystal ball. But thanks to JD Power and Associates, a well-known and well respected authority within the automotive industry, we can now take a pretty well educated guess. For the annual Vehicle Dependability Rankings, they take each model year, in this case 2010, and test them on a number of levels for three consecutive years, ultimately determining which are the most durable and reliable. The result from this testing creates  the Predicted Reliability Scale which is used to rank new models on a scale of one to five, five being the highest level of predicted reliability. Their scores are based on how their three model year old relatives did on their testing. We’ve used this scale as well as the ranking from Kelly Blue Book (KBB) and US News to skim the crop of 2013 Luxury SUVS. Our five selections not only scored well with JD Power on their predicted reliability but they also ranked highly with KBB and US News.

Named number two best luxury SUV of 2013 by KBB, the Mercedes GL-Class was designed to impress. It’s a Mercedes, so quality really isn’t a question, the same goes for luxury and styling. However it scored highly on its reliability testing as well. The GL-Class was also ranked by JD Power as one of two top rated Large Premium CUVs in their 2013 Initial Quality Study. The GL-Class is essentially the S-Class of SUVs. Although it scored second place with KBB the GL-Class found itself in the number one spot on US News in their Ranking and Reviews sections, beating out the 2012 Range Rover for the title of #1 Luxury Large SUV. As far as 2013 models go, the GL-Class consistently found itself on the top of the rankings.
