Winter storm Jonas dropped over two feet of snow and shut down all major metropolitan areas in the northeast this weekend. According to the Weather Channel, 14 states were hit with a foot or more of snow while areas like West Virgina saw 42 inches.
Jonas put a stop to everything from air travel to and from the northeastern region to public transit within the cities like D.C.’s popular Metro system. In New York City, people were seen snowboarding through the streets.
Though the average automobile might not cut it in these weather conditions, our list of top notch vehicles just might do the trick. Check out the list below, and let us know which car you’d trust for a snow day.
1. Best Car for Figure-8’s and Snow Throwing
2015 Lamborghini Aventador
Lamborghini runs the esteemed Winter Accademia, which gives drivers the opportunity to put their cars to the test in the winter weather. This year’s Corso Intensivo is slated for the end of February in famed Aspen, Colorado. Drivers will learn the ins and outs of performance handling and dynamic techniques in the snow.
2. Best Car for the Worst Conditions
2006 Hummer H1 Search & Destroy Tier 2
With all-wheel drive and a 6.6L Garrett Twin Turbocharged Duramax V8 Diesel engine, this H1 is ready for anything. Thanks to 4″ lift over other H1 models, this hazard-ready 4×4 will have you plowing through those feet of snow.
3. Best Car for Snow Cruising
2015 Ferrari FF
The feature that makes the Ferrari FF perfect for snowy weather is the Manettino Dial “Snow” option. All you have to do is flip the dial to this option, and you’re good to go for a little snow cruising. The “Snow” feature on the dial transmits 20 percent of the torque to the front wheels so you won’t have to worry about slipping or sliding.
4. Best Car for Slick, City Roads
2016 Bentley Bentyaga
Anyone who lives in the city knows that ice and slush can cause issues on the roadways. Bentley also recognizes this as a problem. Each year, Bentley holds a Power on Ice event specifically for, you guessed it, driving on the ice. This year’s event packs an extra punch as drivers who attend will be among the first to sit behind the wheel of the Bentayga.
5. Best Car for the Snowy Highway Commute
2016 Maserati Ghibli S Q4
The S Q4 features an intuitive system that will automatically switch to all-wheel drive when it senses slippery road conditions, making the Ghibli S Q4 perfect for highway driving in snowy weather.
6. Best Car for Donuts in the (Empty) Snowy Parking Lot
2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Since you’ll have a little extra time on your hands thanks to a few snow days, we recommend the GT3 RS for a little fun. This 911 features the lightest materials–magnesium and carbon fiber– for the ultimate in driving experience. With its wide stance and “Pit Speed”– a feature that allows the driver to limit the speed for added control and handling– the GT3 RS is the perfect automobile for a few (professionally supervised) donuts.
7. Best Car for Driving in Warm Comfort
2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith
Heated seats and an 8-speed automatic transmission mean you can rest in comfort without compromising power in this uniquely finished Wraith. The pristine Andalusian White finish might be just as majestic as the fresh snowfall outside.
8. Best Car for Driving Through Slush
2015 Jeep Wrangler SEMA
This particular Wrangler has been modified to include an upgraded front steering stabilizer for better handling both on and off-road. The matte gold Jeep also features a 6″ Long Arm TeraFlex Brand lift kit perfect for handling deeper snow and slush.
9. Best Car for the Morning Commute in Treacherous Weather
2016 Land Rover Discovery HSE
The Discovery’s Off-Road Terrain Response® has settings for pavement, gravel, and snow, giving you the best handling for all terrain experiences, including a winter storm. You choose the setting and the Discovery is primed and ready for the best handling. Perfect for those busy mornings when the last thing you need to think about is a safe commute through the snow.
10. Best Car for the Cold Conditions
2016 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG
The G63 comes complete with a rear defogger and heated mirrors so scraping off snow is a little less intense. Also useful is the roll stability control and heated seats, which make this SUV the go-to for braving the snowy weather.
