Most automotive enthusiasts scoff at crossovers, but the Mercedes Benz’s new GLK350 4MATIC should grab the attention of even the most pretentious automotive connoisseur.  Powered by a 3.5-liter direct-injection V6, this little SUV can pump out some decent power. How much?  Well 302hp and 273 lb-ft torque and a 7-speed automatic transmission with a Direct Select shifter is used to grind you through the gears.  But Mercedes isn’t about the power, they are more-so about the class and luxury of the car.

From the outside, the GLK 350 4MATIC looks great.  The redesign creates a crossover worth looking at.  It doesn’t seem squished or elongated like most crossovers.  It has a nice shape with great lines, and a great front end.  The interior is where this car really shines.  The seats were comfortable, the dash was gorgeous and the overall feel was phenomenal.  As I sat in the Jimmy John’s parking lot in the GLK350, I felt like I was in a different world set apart from the outside world.  I felt as though I were sitting in my own first-class bubble.  The packages that were included with our model helped the luxurious feel of the car.  Ours had the premium 1 package, the leather package, multimedia package, AMG styling package, and the driver assistance package.  All of these packages added up to $13,280, a rather large amount.  So if you want true luxury on the inside of your GLK350, you may have to spend a couple extra dollars on top of the $39,090 MSRP.

On the road, the GLK350 drove like a dream.  It had plenty of power, little body roll and came around the corners with an exciting amount of torque.  The steering around the corners was also a pleasant surprise.  Thanks to an amazing electric steering system, turning was responsive and very it made the GLK350 seem very agile.  But barreling through corners is not what this vehicle was meant for.  It was meant for taking the family out, picking up the kids, and doing other family type things that families do nowadays.

If you are looking for a family SUV that doesn’t take up the whole garage, this may be the perfect vehicle for you.  Not only is it powerful and good looking, it is also pretty easy on the pocket.  Not only did Mercedes strive to give the 2013 GLK350 a decent MSRP, they also made it more fuel efficient.  An ECO engine start/stop system is included, which works well to save gas, but I found it a bit annoying.   But I will say stopping at the gas station and spending money is much more annoying that hearing the engine click off.
