No. 22 of 100 produced worldwide and one of only 43 destined for the U.S., this arresting 2014 Lamborghini Aventador LP-720/4 Roadster 50th Anniversary has been part of the Richard Welkowitz Collection since new, and it’s being offered with a mere 88 miles on its odometer. Produced alongside 100 coupe versions to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Automobili Lamborghini, it wears exclusive Giallo Maggio (May Yellow) exterior paint, paying tribute to the color most often chosen by Lamborghini customers since the company’s founding in May 1963.

The Aventador model was unveiled at the February 2011 Geneva Auto Show as the replacement for the Murciélago as the company’s new flagship model, and it boasted a number of breakthrough technologies that combined to make it the most impressive Lamborghini ever. Its carbon-fiber monocoque and aluminum substructures employed such techniques as Resin Transfer Molding, prepreg carbon fiber weaving, and other composite materials to approach the torsional stiffness of a contemporary F1 car. Double-wishbone pushrod suspension with Ohlins shocks and giant 15.7-inch front and 15-inch rear carbon-ceramic brakes combine for impossible agility at speed. Its all-new 6.5L V-12 engine, a 700 HP behemoth with a shrieking 8,500 RPM redline, was capable of rocketing the car’s occupants to 217 MPH.

Fittingly, the 50th Anniversary roadster is the most powerful Aventador to its time, its output bumped to 720 HP at 8,400 RPM. Boasting an MSRP of $607,525, this virgin example beckons with its signature scissor doors, which open to reveal a spacious yellow and black cockpit brimming with contrasting diamond-stitched leather, brushed aluminum and carbon fiber. Behind the multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters for the 7-speed automatic gearbox, the digital readouts include a 9,000 RPM tachometer and an array of highly legible readouts. Dual-zone automatic climate control, power locks, windows and mirrors, and a premium AM/FM/CD sound system are almost superfluous in this Italian masterpiece.
