Before Bob Lutz cleaned up GM, he was Chrysler’s Director of Marketing and reported directly to Lee Iacocca. In order to make sure the world saw what the original Viper was transforming into, he called up our favorite Late Night host. It is hard to believe that a car this memorable is already 25 years old, so here is Jay Leno driving his 1996 Dodge Viper GTS.
If you weren’t aware, this was the first Viper coupe, and it included a few items the RT/10 Roadster lacked. Buyers of the GTS were spoiled with Air Conditioning, windows, full-length exhaust, and 50 more horsepower. Although they look nearly identical, the GTS only shares 10% of its parts with the roadster. This was done to make it incredible in the corners and aerodynamic for triple-digit cruising. Don’t believe the poets who say never to meet your heroes, because driving a Viper GTS will cure any ailments. You will long for a time of uncomplicated cars with massive power. That’s why our dealers have a healthy selection of venomous snakes to choose from. Click the button below because these American classics are appreciating every day.
