Mercedes-Benz introduced their latest Sprinter model at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show with great fanfare to boast the numerous capabilities of the latest model, including the Sprinters incredible payload capability. Looking to bring the Sprinter from mild to wild, Mercedes turned once again to long time customizer RENNtech. The tuner had great success at the 2014 SEMA Show with Mercedes for the Mertis Van model unveiling. At SEMA, RENNtech won the Mercedes-Benz Tuner build off among other concepts with their incredible mobile DJ Van. In Chicago Mercedes unveiled the new Sprinter Model alongside RENNtech’s “Sprinter Extreme”, which was purpose built to showcase the Sprinters unbelievable potential for customization.
The Sprinter 3500 Cab Chassis is the platform upon which the Sprinter Extreme was created. The Cab chassis is also the foundation for Mercedes new Master Upfitter Program modifications. The Master Upfitter Program allows the Sprinter chassis to be fitted with customer specific equipment to transform the Sprinter into truly anything, such as a passenger bus, R.V, Ambulance or for RENNtech, an extreme payload transport vehicle. RENNtech took to making the Sprinters incredible payload capability focus of the Sprinter Extreme concept. With this, the Sprinter platform was “Upfit” with a Scattolini ScattoMaax “Tipper Bed”. This three-way tipping bed provides for expanded capability in a variety of environments. The unique bed is already available to customers and allows the Sprinter Extreme to dump over 5,200 lbs. of payload to either side or to the rear of the vehicle.
Since this isn’t just your everyday work truck, RENNtech added numerous upgrades starting with a custom suspension lift package for additional ground clearance. Six G-Class-inspired beadlock wheels and aggressive off-road tires became the link between rubber and road. RENNtech then crafted custom rear fenders to provide additional clearance for suspension travel and tire clearance for the larger offroad wheels. A custom roof rack was purpose built to support six forward-facing lights. Additional spotlights are positioned on the sides of the roof rack. A custom brush guard complete with additional fog lights and a powerful winch are located beneath the Sprinter 3500’s front bumper. Finishing off the Sprinter Extreme’s look is an eye-catching vinyl wrap and custom fabricated chrome exhaust stacks situated on either side of the cab.
The Sprinter Extreme is big, stretching over 20 feet from end-to-end and over 95″ tall. A bright green vehicle this size is hard to miss and the show going public and automotive critics alike definitely took notice. Hailed by the automotive press as one of the most impressive vehicles of the 2016 Chicago Autoshow.
The best part of the RENNtech’s Sprinter Extreme is that unlike most concepts, the foundation for this concept can be ordered at a Mercedes or Freightliner dealership today. RENNtech can then take the reins and take your Sprinter to the extreme.
