To celebrate their victory in the 2014 Formula 1 World Championship, thanks to Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes-Benz has created two special models of the SL 63 AMG. The models, co-created by Hamilton and his fiercest rival Nico Rosberg and unveiled in a press release issued issued today, will be available in either black or white color schemes. The white scheme was handpicked by Rosberg, while Hamilton chose black.
There will be only 19 examples of each model created, 38 in total, and each will effectively be a one-off. Mercedes-Benz accomplished this by dedicating each vehicle to one of the 19 Formula 1 race tracks used this year. Each will have one of the race track hand-embroidered into the vehicle’s floor mats and engraved on a badge located on the center console, as well as the key to the vehicle.
As far as performance goes, these cars are fitted with a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine that is good for 585 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. And, to allow the car’s driver to push the envelope even further, the top speed limit of the car has been increased to 186 mph.
In order to put one of these in your garage, you will need to be a member of the Mercedes-Benz Circle of Excellence. Those who do get their hands on one will not only get the car, but will also receive a helmet worn by Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg, with further extras including a Nico Rosberg of Lewis Hamilton Edition IWC Ingenieur chronograph watch, an F1 book signed by both drivers and an invitation to the opening race of the 2015 season.
Mercedes-Benz will only be offering these cars up as pairs initially, with a price tag of approx. $785,500 USD. When they are sold individually, they will have a price tag of approx. $399,400 USD.
