When he wins on Saturday, what cars do you think he should add to his collection?

For the first time in the 30-year history of the duPont REGISTRY™, we have decided to interview one of our most loyal readers. You will certainly recognize the name—Floyd Mayweather. It’s been almost two decades since Floyd Mayweather purchased his first duPont REGISTRY magazine, which he uses as his personal shopping guide. His loyalty and admiration for our brand led us to choose Floyd to be the first person to grace the cover of the duPont REGISTRY’s Money Edition. His life exemplifies what it means to “live the duPont REGISTRY Lifestyle” and he continues to publicly express support and admiration for the magazine and website. Take a moment to read what Floyd has to say during this exclusive interview.

dR: When did you first realize your passion for cars?

FM: I have always had a passion for the finer things in life. Especially cars, starting with the first luxury car I purchased, a 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 that I still own. I worked hard to be where I am today, and deserve to enjoy the best the world has to offer. If there is a car that can help me do this, I’m going to buy it.

A luxurious trio.

dR: Tell me about your car collection.

FM: [Laughs] Look at my driveway. That’s just one of my collections. I have a Miami collection, Los Angeles collection, a collection at my other Las Vegas house and a few more. These cars are my toys.

dR: Tell me about the first exotic car you purchased from the duPont REGISTRY.

FM: I remember it like it was yesterday, I noticed a yellow 2002 Ferrari 360 Modena in the duPont REGISTRY and asked my good friend Marc Laidler to get it for me. I saw the car and knew I had to have it.

dR: Exotic cars and watches go hand in hand. Tell us about your watch collection.

FM: Everything that I have represents the best of the best. Just like my cars are my toys, these watches are my wrist toys.

A multi-million dollar watch collection.

dR: Some of your watches are worth over $1 million dollars; what goes into that purchasing decision?

FM: When I see a watch I want, I buy it. I’ve earned it. The value of my overall watch collection has appreciated over the years. I have a Piaget Galaxy worth $1 million, a Jacob & Co. Rainbow Tourbillon worth $2 million and an Audemar Piguet Royal Oak worth $1.3 million, just to name a few. Just like some of my cars, if I see a watch in the duPont REGISTRY that I want, I rip out the page and ask a member of my team to get it for me.

dR: You talked about your car collections at your other homes, how many houses do you own?

FM: The short answer is a lot. I am very invested in the real estate market and own many investment homes and apartments. I even travel with my personal realtor just in case I find an investment property or new home I want. As for the homes I use personally, they are like my cars, clothes and jewelry; my homes represent me. You can see my style as soon as you step inside. Everything is very particular and thought out.

A view fit for a champion.

dR: What is the biggest misconception about Floyd Mayweather?

FM: I think people see my flashy lifestyle and make up their minds pretty quickly about me.  But when you ask me the question, “Who is Floyd Mayweather?” I’m not just an athlete, or an entertainer, or a boxer, or a business man. When I go places people don’t say, “There’s a fighter,” or, “There’s an entertainer.“ They say, “There’s Floyd Mayweather.”

dR: So then, who is Floyd Mayweather the businessman?

FM:  I have been fortunate enough to surround myself with brilliant people, which allows me to focus on the tasks at hand. A good businessman can embrace the fact that he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. Surrounding yourself with great people is the easiest and most effective way to be successful; just treat them right and let them do their jobs.

dR: Tell us about your kids. How do you teach them the value of money and keep them grounded?

FM: I have 2 boys and 2 girls. It is very important for me to spend as much time as possible with them and to do normal things. I try to teach them that it takes hard work and dedication to be successful in life. I want my kids to have it all, who doesn’t? I want them to take over my empire, but they will have to earn it.

dR: Tell me about The Money Team.

FM: The Money Team is a movement. It’s about being wealthy in all aspects of life and about having the ability to call your own shots and be your own boss. It’s about being rich at heart and being in a position to give back. It’s about striving for greatness in whatever you do.

dR: It sounds like you have it all, but if there was one thing left on your bucket list, what would it be?

FM: [Pauses and smiles] Be on the cover of the duPont REGISTRY™.
