General Motors has announced that they plan on building the Cadillac ELR extended-range electric vehicle at its Detroid-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Â Production will start in late 2013, and GM is looking to compete with the Fisker Karma and Tesla Model S.
The ELR features an extended-range electric system that provides all-electric drive to the wheels, but it also offers the option to switch to gasoline.
“The ELR will be in a class by itself, further proof of our commitment to electric vehicles and advanced technology,” said GM North American President, Mark Reuss. “People will instantly recognize it as a Cadillac by its distinctive, signature look and true-to-concept exterior design.”
