A modern Bugatti legend turns 90.
Romano Artioli witnessed what he thought was the death of the Bugatti brand in his youth in 1952. However, after becoming an incredibly successful entrepreneur, it was him that brought Bugatti back to roaring life in the late 1980s. It was in 1987 when he bought the brand and revived it with the automotive industry’s best Italian engineers and designers, and an incredible production plant that was the most modern facility of its time finished in a striking rendition of the brand’s iconic blue.

It was under Artioli’s leadership that Bugatti saw through the creation of the legendary EB110, with a 3.5-liter V12, and the all-wheel drive and quad-turbocharging that Bugatti’s hypercars remain known and admired for today. Also with five valves per cylinder, the unique and unforgettable supercar was revealed on Ettore Bugatti’s 110th birthday. While the supercar was and still is lauded all over the world, economic troubles quickly spelled doom for Artioli’s Bugatti, and bankruptcy was filed in 1995. However, the legacy of Romano Artioli’s ownership of Bugatti and the EB110 lives on, with the incredible 10-example Centodieci looking to the EB110 as its main inspiration, and on the legend’s 90th birthday, Bugatti looks back on his very important contributions to one of the world’s greatest names in the automotive industry.
