Every time a BMW is dropped off for us to review, I always get a bit giddy. I know that the car waiting for me is a brilliant piece of machinery that is going to have me all smiles throughout the testing. I can safely say that I was all smiles during our time in the 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe.
When I first saw this car, I noticed its low-profile body and the unique Frozen Bronze metallic finish that resembled a matte brown finish. The 640i sits incredible low and the top of this car is very low as well. Some may say they aren’t fans of this new styling, but I fell in love with it. From the front to the rear, this car was absolutely fantastic.
However, when it comes to the ‘looks’ department, the 2013 640i Gran Coupe knocks it out of the park with its stylish interior. Ours was fitted with an alcantara headliner, white ash grain wood trim, and opal white/amaro brown leather. This two-tone interior absolutely blew me away. The seats themselves were also very comfortable, there was plenty of leg room, even for our colleague that is well over six feet. BMW’s iDrive system was implemented into this car’s center console, and was easy to navigate through just like every other 2012/2013 BMW. And when you selected the radio on the iDrive, we were greeted with beautiful tunes from a $950 Ban & Olufsen sound system (a surprisingly low price).
On the move, the 2013 640i Gran Coupe provided us with quite the show. Power by a 3.0-liter twin turbo V-6, this car has all the power you will need out of a 6-series. The best thing about this twin turbo engine was the absence of turbo lag. Honestly, it was surprising that we were driving a 6-cylinder, but that is just the magic of twin-turbocharged cars. Its heart pumped out a healthy 315 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. Every bit of power was accounted for, and then some.
The 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe is an amazing vehicle both inside and out. In recent months, I will say that this car is by far my favorite. If you are looking for a luxurious, yet sporty vehicle with plenty of room, the 640i is the perfect choice. The MSRP for this car is $76,000 and our test model was priced at $104,695.
