Buying an SUV comes with the downside of terrible gas mileage due to their large size. We have seen a few SUV hybrids out there, but only a handful are worth your time. Adding to the handful of great hybrids looks to be the BMW Concept5 X5 eDrive.
The powertrain on BMW’s new hybrid SUV consists of a four-cylinder engine coupled with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor. On the electric motor alone, the Concept5 X5 eDrive can travel at up to 75 mph with a maximum range of 19 miles. More importantly, when the electric motor is working with the gas engine, the fuel consumption is rated at 74.3 mpg.
There is no word if BMW will actually produce the Concept5 X5 eDrive, but expect to a hybrid SUV from the Bavarian automaker in the near future.
