As the first owner of a BMW i8 in South Carolina, Scott Hughes is proud of his hybrid German automobile. In a video uploaded to YouTube by 9/8 Central Nov. 17, Hughes talks about how the i8 is a large step forward for BMW, just as the 2002 was in 1962. But the i8 is not the only historic BMW Hughes owns, because in his garage he also has a 1980 M1, BMW’s first supercar.

The BMW i8 itself is a step in a new direction for the German automaker. Its hybrid powertrain consists of a turbocharged three-cylinder engine and BMW eDrive technology. Combined, its drivetrain is capable of 362 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.
