New BMW 2 Series Engines and Variants

The BMW 2 series may have the lowest price point in the German automaker’s lineup, but that didn’t stop them from loading the series with a multitude of model variants and engine options. According to a press release issued today, new entry-level engines, a four-wheel drive model and additional equipment options will be available for the 2 Series come March 2015.

A new three-cylinder engine with BMW’s TwinPower technology will be featured in the 218i Coupe. This 1.5-liter engine is newly developed and produces 136 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. It’s 0-62 mph time is currently set at 8.8 seconds with the manual transmission, and 8.9 seconds with the automatic.

In the 220d xDrive Coupe, as the name says, the BMW xDrive (intelligent four-wheel drive) system will be an alternative to the rear-wheel drive setup. This model recieves 190 hp from its 2-liter four-cylinder TwinPower diesel engine and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds.

New model variants are also now available for the 2 Series. These include the Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport variants. The Advantage models receive “basic equipment multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, Cruise Control with braking function, Park Distance Control with sensors at the rear, a storage package and fog lamps.” Right above the Advantage models are the Sport Line and Luxury, which are highlighted by the exclusively designed 17-inch light alloy wheels, door sills, seat upholstery, interior trims, car key, light package and ambient light. Each also has distinguishing characteristics, such as the Luxury Line’s Chrome Line exterior and the Sport Line’s high-gloss black mirror caps.

At the top is the M Sport model, which has all of the options found in the Advantage model and then some. The ride height of the car is lowered by 10 mm thanks to the M Sport suspension. This drop in height is complemented by the 17-inch M light alloy wheels with a double spoke design. Its exterior also receives the M aerodynamics package, while the interior dons characteristic M flair.

In total, there will be four gas engine and three diesel engine variants, with a four-wheel drive model and great equipment options. Be sure to visit your local BMW dealer come March of next year to learn more.
