When Bentley put out the call to enthusiasts encouraging them to participate in their Power on Ice driving instruction, they certainly expected a response. However, it’s hard to say if they anticipated how loud and large that response actually was.
The marque announced in a press release today that this year saw the most successful Power on Ice series yet, with more than 200 enthusiasts gathering around icy and frozen Finnish lakes to take their turn. They each tried their hand at the wheel of the Mulsanne Speed and Continental GT3-R on a course designed by Juha Kankkunen, a Finnish rally driver with a particular adeptness for ice driving. In 2011, he was responsible for setting a world speed record on ice while piloting a convertible Bentley Continental Supersports.
The courses were across 6-inch thick sheets of ice, with each turn displaying the true grip available in Bentley’s top-of-the-range models. The event itself spanned four days in February, with two dedicated wholly to driving.
For full details about the event and to learn more about how you can participate in next year’s event, be sure to visit Bentley’s website and watch their preview video, uploaded to YouTube Oct. 3, 2014, above.
Before the 2016 event, though, you should find yourself a new Bentley to become familiar with its controls and driving dynamics. Check out our listings at the button below, and find yourself the perfect fit.
