Bentley has confirmed today that they will proceed with development on an SUV. The Bentley SUV has been on rocky ground as of late, but I’m glad to see that they have settled. The decision to go ahead with this model comes from extremely positive feedback from customers in the past 16 months. Needless to say, customers want to see the famed British automaker create an SUV.
They are planning on producing the SUV in Crewe and this project is expected to create over 1000 jobs in the UK. Also, Bentley will be pouring more than $1.2 million over the next three years into their headquarters in Crewe and into the development of their new models.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron was present for the announcement: “This £800 million investment and a thousand new jobs from Bentley is fantastic news for both Crewe and for the UK as a whole. It is another important milestone in strengthening our economy.”
Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Volkswagen Group said: “The Volkswagen Group believes in the UK as a competitive location for industrial production. Bentley fans all around the world are looking forward to the brand’s first SUV. Together we will make this new Bentley another true Bentley – powerful, exclusive and successful.” said Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Volkswagen Group.
Bentley states that the SUV will be a “thoroughbred Bentley true to the brand hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship”. The British automaker is also claiming that it will be the most luxurious and powerful SUV in the market.
