“There is a long tradition of five-cylinder engines at Audi,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Technical Development at AUDI AG. “In the 80s, they turned Audi into a sporty brand, both in motor sports and in production. The new Audi RS 3 Sportback features the latest generation of our 2.5 liter, five‑cylinder engine – the most powerful production engine in the modular transverse matrix.”
Set to hit Audi dealerships by the end of summer 2015, this beast features a seven-speed S tronic transmission mated to the notorious 2.5 liter 5-cylinder engine, capable of producing 367 hp and 343 lb-ft. The top speed can be increased to 174 mph, and with full potential and a nice stretch of road ahead, it can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds.
The press release describes how the torque vectoring is based on intelligent software designed to maximize driving enjoyment. It steers directly into corners, and is ready to be the go-to car for fun driving.
