Congratulations to Audi for producing its three millionth A3 model. It’s been 17 years since the first A3 was built, and the three millionth model looks just as good as ever. This particular A3 is a white A3 Sportback equipped with a 2.0-liter TDI engine and quattro all-wheel drive and was created at the Ingolstadt site.
“Three million automobiles in the compact class are quite a performance,” said Dr. Frank Dreves, Board of Management Member for Production at AUDI AG. “This success is backed by a strong team and an efficient production system. With the Audi A3, we have created a new brand segment – we have been setting standards in the compact class with innovative technology and first-class quality for 17 years now.”
In 2012, Audi produced 152,993 cars of the A3 series in Ingolstadt – this includes the base A3, the A3 Sportback and the S models as well. Since being on the market in February of this year, the A3 is the highest production volume at the Ingolstadt site with about 700 rolling off the assembly line per day.
“Since the mid-90s, the Audi A3 was the second important pillar of our main plant in Ingolstadt and thus contributes significantly to securing sustainable employment at the site,” says Peter Mosch, Chairman of Audi AG. “It is particularly due to the dedication and passion of our workforce that we can write this success story.”
