Audi is adding a new variant to the A8 line – the A8 L Security. Built by the company’s armored car division, this vehicle is a perfect choice for those looking for maximum protection in a luxurious setting.
The body and occupant cell are integrated as a single element, and are made of extremely tough materials such as heat-formed armor steel, aramide fabric, ceramic, a special aluminum alloy and multi-laminated glass. The armor-plated vehicle floor made from a special aluminum alloy and ballistic-proof side profiles allow the car to withstand an attack from a military hand grenade and other explosive charges. Audi uses a special bullet-proof glass with a splinter-inhibiting polycarbonate layer on the inside for the door windows, windshield and rear window.
One of the most important parts of the Audi A8 L Security is found in the trunk, where a communications box is housed. This armor-plated box allows the occupants to utilize the intercom system, which enables communication with the outside world without exposure to a dangerous environment.
The A8 L Security’s engine options are the same as the base A8 L’s options, which include the 4.0-liter V8 and the 6.3-liter W12.
Audi is currently taking orders for the A8 L Security, and deliveries will start in the third quarter of 2014. They also provide training services for the drivers and vehicle owners.
