Audi unveiled in a press release yesterday, Oct. 28, their fastest production vehicle to-date: the 2015 Audi R8 Competition.
The R8 Competition draws inspiration from the R8 LMS racecar and redefines the production R8 itself. Providing power to the wheels is a 5.2-liter V10 that produces 570 hp, which is mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission. When pushed to the limit, the R8 Competition can go 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and top out at 199 mph. These performance numbers make the R8 Competition the fastest production car Audi has ever made.
“The limited-edition Audi R8 competition is the closest road car to our R8 LMS ultra race car that has won virtually every race around the world,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America, in the press release. “It is designed for the driving enthusiast and we’re excited to bring 60 units as a limited-edition to the U.S.”
Enhancing the car’s capabilities is the extensive exterior carbon fiber accents. These accents include the fixed rear spoiler, engine bay, mirror housings, side blades, front spoiler and rear diffusor. This carbon fiber treatment continues in the car’s cabin, including the center console and illuminated door sill inlays.
Only 60 examples of the Audi R8 Competition will be created at the Neckarsulm, Germany facility. Orders for the car can be placed starting as early as November, with deliveries expected to begin in 2015.
