Superformance and Shelby American Inc are teaming up to create the limited edition GT40 MKII to commemorate the 1966 24 Hour Le Mans finish. Finishing in the top two, the Shelby-American team made history in American racing.
Only 20 limited edition GT40 MKII for sale will be released, and the model will be launched at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona at the end of January. In a press release from Superformance CEO, Lance Stander states:
We’re very excited to release this special edition GT40 celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Le Mans victory,” said Superformance CEO, Lance Stander. “Having known Carroll Shelby personally, we know how proud he was of this victory and can’t think of a better way to commemorate it.
Shelby GT continuations are meticulously crafted in an effort to preserve the original GT design and power. They are known for their incredible likeness to their predecessor. The GT40 MKII will come with exclusive 50th Anniversary badging as well as logos and other features. According to the Superformace press release, the car will be available in one of three color schemes:
- Bruce McLaren edition (Black with silver stripes)
- Ken Miles edition (Blue with white stripes)
- Dan Gurney edition (Red with white stripes)
Dealers within the Shelby network are set to take orders for the limited edition anniversary vehicle now.
